Elka: New Orleans; How did a salad-from-a-bag girl become an Indian food fan? Married into an Indian family of course! Don't get me wrong- I LOVE all kinds of foods (and spicy, unknown or exotic were never turnoffs) but I was never a gourmet much less a great chef! (Secret be known, post-preparation cleanup was always my biggest cooking peave.) I found that I loved the variety and subtlety of the flavours of my husband's native cuisine. (And I wanted to be able to convince Mummy that her son wasn't starving at my hand.) So I embarked on a culinary adventure. At first I was intimidated by the recipes that I saw...What busy mom has time to spend 3 hours on a dessert? So I began learning techniques, researching ingredients and applying streamlined, American cooking techniques that I grew up with and Voila! Success. ***Warning: If you are a traditionalist, gourmet, or have loads of time on your hands, these may not be the recipes for you.
